Samsung has made a significant impact at CES 2024 with its impressive display technologies, showcasing advancements in brightness, thinness, and flexibility across various devices. One of the highlights is the introduction of QD-OLED panels specifically designed for TVs and monitors, offering enhanced brightness capabilities.
In addition to this, Samsung has unveiled remarkably thin OLED screens for laptops, as well as a range of foldable, rollable, slideable, and hybrid OLED screens that cater to diverse applications such as automobiles, phones, tablets, and laptops. These innovations demonstrate Samsung’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of display technology.
A groundbreaking micro display called OLEDoS has also been revealed by Samsung. This display, designed for XR (Extended Reality) headsets, features a pixel density of 3,500ppi and is the world’s first OLEDoS screen with an RGB sub-pixel structure. With a size of 1.03 inches, the OLEDoS panel provides a pixel density equivalent to viewing a 4K screen when used in XR/VR headsets. Notably, it eliminates the need for a separate light source, ensuring true-to-life visuals.
While specific frame rates have not been disclosed, it is speculated that the OLEDoS display may support up to 90Hz, promising a smooth visual experience. Manufactured by eMagin, a US-based OLEDoS display company acquired by Samsung Display, these screens have been widely used for military applications such as helmets and night vision goggles.
The 1.03-inch panel is expected to offer a resolution of 2,500 x 2,500 pixels and potentially support a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. It is anticipated that this cutting-edge display technology will be incorporated into Samsung’s upcoming XR headset, which is rumored to leverage Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor and a version of Android tailored for XR headsets by Google.
Samsung’s presence at CES 2024 highlights its commitment to pushing the boundaries of display technology, setting the stage for immersive and high-performance experiences across a wide range of devices. As these innovations continue to unfold, consumers can look forward to a new era of visual excellence and versatility in electronic displays.
