Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors have always been at the forefront of mobile technology, and the anticipation for their upcoming release, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (SM8750), is building. As leaks and rumors surface, we get a glimpse of what this new chipset has in store.
One of the standout features of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is its CPU configuration. It is said to boast 6 Phoenix L and 2 Phoenix M CPU cores. These cores, internally codenamed Sun, are Qualcomm’s own Nuvia design, setting them apart from the standard Arm Cortex cores found in other processors. The Phoenix M cores, on the other hand, reportedly draw 1.1 Watts each under stress. In an all-core workload scenario, the power draw peaks at 14.2 Watts.
It’s important to note that these measurements were obtained from an early engineering sample, and adjustments may occur before the official release. The power draw of 14 Watts raises concerns about thermal management in smartphones, necessitating a robust cooling solution.
Despite these concerns, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s enhanced transistor density from TSMC’s N3E process positions it as a strong competitor against rivals like the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 and the Samsung Exynos 2500.
