Qualcomm has unveiled its latest chipset the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 which marks a significant improvement over its predecessor Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. The new platform has various improvements including a 15% increase in CPU performance, Adreno GPU performance improved by 45%, and power consumption decreased by 5%.
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 builds on the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 by including a prime Cortex-X4 core for the CPU and includes on-device AI capabilities similar to those found in the flagship 8 series Notably, it delivers on -device generative AI is possible , with the Snapdragon 7 series It’s a first. This enables support for a wide range of large language models (LLMs) and large vision models (LVMs), including Baichuan-7B, Llama 2, Gemini Nano, and Zhipu ChatGLM.
The addition of these AI features is expected to enhance virtual assistants, facilitate better creation of new content, and improve multilingual translation. Built with advanced 4nm process technology, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 has a prime Cortex-X4 core clocked at 2.8 GHz, flanked by a modem with 4 display cores (possibly A720) at 2.6 GHz and 3 efficiency units (Cortex-A520). 1.9 GHz, includes Snapdragon X63 5G, FastConnect 7800 mobile connectivity system and supports 3GPP Release 17 5G, offers downlink speeds of up to 4.2 Gbps and is compatible with older cellular standards.
In terms of display support, the chipset offers resolutions up to 4K at 60 Hz, QHD+ at 120 Hz with variable refresh rate support from 240 Hz to 1 Hz and memory support includes LPDDR5X RAM up to 24 GB of UFS 4.0 storage around. Leading smartphone makers like OnePlus, Realme and Sharp were among the early adopters of the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset. Expected device releases with this chipset, including the Ace 3V from OnePlus, Realme and Sharp, are expected to further demonstrate the capabilities of this cutting-edge technology.
