Apple’s early work on foldable devices is widely credited as a huge effort. Sources suggest that the tech giant is preparing to unveil a 7-8 inch tablet, potentially in the iPad family, followed by a bigger 20.25” model that may be incorporated under the Mac lineup. The smaller foldable tablet could see a release window around 2026/2027, while its larger counterpart could be eyeing a 2028 launch.
In addition to these tablets, Apple is also developing a foldable iPhone, although it may be a little late at first. Originally scheduled for a 2026 release date, reports from Korean publication Alpha Business indicate a switch to early 2027. The suspension is intended to ensure better preparedness on all fronts, including managing the supply and demand for foldable displays.
Despite the adjustment in the timeline, Apple remains committed to experimentation and periodic supplier selection. Samsung Display and LG Display are reportedly among the major players Apple has tapped to create prototype displays for the foldable iPhone.
One notable feature of Apple’s foldable display technology is its patented ability to reduce visible creases. By etching a groove in the ultra thin glass and hiding it with flexible polymers, Apple aims to make the display panel more scratch resistant, resulting in fewer creases
Originally, Apple had planned to include a foldable iPhone in the iPhone 18 series. However, with delay, the foldable device can have a dedicated launch schedule or can share the spotlight with the foldable iPad, or maybe more delays before launch.
